Tile area is length times width, and base labor is that area times 0.06 hours plus 0.04 per complexity point. A 10-by-10 room in a straight grid is 100 x (0.06 + 0.04), or 10 hours of setting time.

Make it a diagonal layout (complexity 3) and the rate rises to 0.06 + 0.12, so the same 100 square feet becomes 18 hours because every edge tile is a careful diagonal cut.

The completion estimate divides working hours by your daily hours and then adds two days: one for mortar cure before grouting and one for the grout and finishing. DIY mode inflates the setting hours for inexperience and adds the fun tax, so an amateur floor commonly runs two to three times a pro's active labor even though the cure days are fixed.
