How the Estimate Works
The skylight installation timeline estimate starts with the configured work quantities, adds scope and complexity adjustments, applies DIY assumptions when selected, and converts the resulting work into calendar days using your working hours.
Each skylight starts at 5 hours plus 1.5 hours per roof-type point, so a single unit on asphalt shingles is about 5 + 1.5, or 6.5 hours, while the same unit on tile climbs to 5 + 4.5, near 9.5 hours because the flashing is fussier.
A full curb-mounted frame adds another 2 hours per skylight for the interior shaft, but choosing a light tunnel skips that. Two shingle skylights with tunnels come to roughly 2 x 6.5, or 13 hours, which at 6 safe roof hours a day rounds to three days.
DIY mode stretches the base hours for inexperience and then piles on the fun tax, including redoing flashing that leaked on the first try. That flashing redo penalty is exactly why amateur skylight jobs so often run two to three times the professional timeline.
